BROWN HOODED GULL Larus maculipennis

The Falkland Island's 'Pink-breasted Gull' A resident breeder, not common, and their smallest gull. During the breeding season the head is a distinctive brown but in winter plumage the head is white with a brown ear spot.

Diet is small marine life, including small fish, krill and sandhoppers taken from tidelines and beaches and offshore kelp beds.

Widely distributed in southern South America, from Uruaguay and Chile, south through Tierra del Fuego to the Falkland Islands.
